HAMDEN

Hamden is situated in south-central Connecticut immediately north of New Haven between the Quinnipiac River and West Rock Ridge. In the northeast part of town, the prominent trap rock provides Hamden with its nickname, the "Land of the Sleeping Giant". Hamden is 33.1 square miles. Hamden is a town of neighborhoods. Hamden has an active business community.

The twon of Hamden features: Mill River, Lake Whitney, Lake Whitney waterfall, Quinnipiac River, and Lake Wintergreen. As one travels down Whitney Ave, one can eaily view the Eli Whitney Museum in its original location. The Farmington Canal is well known for its walking, hiking, and biking trails.

Hamden has a Magnet School, nine elementary Schools, one middle school, and a newly renovated high school on Whitney Ave at the foot of Route 15.
Hamden houses Quinnipiac University, Quinnipiac Law School, ACES (Area Cooperative Educational Services), Eli Whitney Vocational-Technical School, MT Sacred Heart Academy, Hamden Hall Country Day School, Hyde School, Paier School of Art, and West Woods Christian Academy.

Hamden's Senior Center located at Miller Library is  a model for the state.

The Connecticut Agricultural Center is located in Hamden. The first truss bridge in the United States was constructed in Hamden.

Ernest Borgnine was born and raised in Hamden.
